Marc Frenette is a shareholder of the firm of Skelton, Taintor & Abbott in Auburn, Maine, whose practice is concentrated in the areas of:

Marc’s expertise is in representing and advising businesses, governmental entities and individuals in complex commercial and regulatory matters, licensing and administrative proceedings and general civil litigation.

He counsels clients, ranging from national corporations to local small businesses and non-profits, in formation, organization, capital structure, governance and other transactional and operational matters.

He also represents businesses and municipalities in disputes such as breach of contract cases, real estate disputes, minority shareholder lawsuits and breach of fiduciary duty claims.

Marc has developed an extensive insurance practice and regularly represents insurers, agents and brokers in coverage and related disputes, including both first-party and third-party claims. He also represents individuals and businesses in recovering property losses from insurance companies and in enforcing insurers’ duty to defend.

Marc’s approach to cases is to determine the client’s objectives promptly, thoroughly analyze each issue at the outset of the representation and, as matters develop, to provide information that will allow clients to make business-based decisions regarding the progress of the case.

He is able to draw from his extensive background in corporate and financial matters, including those involving corporations, partnerships and limited liability companies, to provide a strategic advantage to his clients in the courtroom.

Marc has been selected to the 2010 New England Rising Stars list, featuring young lawyers in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.

He is admitted to practice before all of Maine’s state and federal courts as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the U.S. Tax Court.

Marc belongs to the Maine State Bar Association, the Androscoggin County Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the American Association for Justice (formerly known as the America Trial Lawyers Association).

Prior to entering private practice, Marc served as a law clerk for Maine Supreme Judicial Court Justice Robert Clifford, helping to perform legal research and draft opinions. The experience gave him invaluable insight to the judicial decision-making process.

Marc is active in the community, including his service on the supervisory committee of the Central Maine Credit Union. He also coaches and directs the Lewiston Auburn Youth Hockey League and serves as the assistant varsity ice hockey coach at Lewiston High School under Head Coach (and Skelton, Taintor & Abbott director) Jamie Belleau.

Born in Lewiston, Maine, Marc earned his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from Duke University in 1998. He graduated from the University of Maine School of Law, summa cum laude, in 2001. During law school, he served as the research editor of the Maine Law Review and as a legal writing instructor.
