Alan G. Stone

Experienced in many aspects of litigation and trial practice. Mr. Stone's trial practice includes both civil and criminal work. He has represented clients in professional malpractice suits, personal injury, and wrongful death actions. In addition to representing plaintiffs, Mr. Stone has served as defense counsel in several complex cases including the successful defense of Central Maine Power Company in a wrongful death electrocution jury trial. He has also served as defense counsel for Bangor Hydro Electric Company. Mr. Stone's active trial practice has included many high profile criminal defense cases, including a number of successful defenses in murder cases. Mr. Stone's criminal practice also includes white collar crime defense. Mr. Stone actively practices before State of Maine boards and administrative agencies. He also specializes in Public Utility Law, including energy law (electric and gas), telecommunications, and water.  He is recognized in Best Lawyers in America in the area of energy law, and in Chambers and Partners as a leading lawyer in the area of energy and natural resources.  He regularly appears before the Maine Public Utilities Commission representing municipalities, utilities and interveners. He is general counsel to Bangor Gas Company, LLC. Mr. Stone also represents professionals in Maine before regulatory, licensing and disciplinary boards including the Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar and the Maine Dental Board.
Admitted to Bar, Maine in 1975, and the bar of the U.S. District Court, District of Maine in 1979. He graduated in 1972 from Boston University (B.S., magna cum laude) and from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law in 1975. (J.D.), where he was given the American Jurisprudence Award in Evidence. From 1975 through 1979, he served as an Attorney/Hearings Examiner with the Maine Public Utilities Commission, and has been in private law practice since 1979 in the Lewiston/Auburn, Maine community. Mr. Stone served as President of the Androscoggin County Bar Association in 1987, and was a Governor of the Maine Bar Association from 1986-1990. Mr. Stone served as Panel Chair of the Maine Grievance Commission. Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar, 1996-2003. Mr. Stone has been appointed by the Chief Justice of the Maine Superior Court to serve as Chairperson of the Medical Malpractice Review Panels in Maine.  Mr. Stone has achieved the highest rating in Martindale-Hubbell from his peers: AV, and is listed in Best Lawyers in America.  He also has served as Chair of the Raymond, Maine School Board, and serves as Town Moderator, Raymond , Maine .
